“For the woods are full of bluebells and the hedges full of bloom”…John Clare

As part of our Step into Nature campaign, we’re asking everyone to get outside this May and look for wildflowers. The days are warmer, the birds are singing and wildflowers are beginning to liven up our hedgerows and footpaths.
But this isn’t just about enjoying the flowers. We’re also encouraging people to walk the local footpaths to help raise awareness about the threat to our countryside from the proposed Kingsway Solar large-scale solar farm. While renewable energy is important, this particular development could mean losing valuable countryside, habitats and biodiversity.
What to Look For
There are many wildflowers blooming in May—here are just a few you might find:

🔍If you spot something unusual, record it on iRecord—your sightings help build evidence of what’s at risk from developments like the proposed Kingsway Solar farm.
Not Sure What You’ve Found?
No problem! Use the PlantNet app (it’s free) to take a photo and identify the flower. Then, record your sightings on iRecord. Every record helps us build a picture of the nature that could be affected by the solar farm development.
Just be mindful of ‘cropping’ when uploading screenshots via the app. Well-documented records are far more likely to be accepted by expert reviewers.

Why It Matters
These wildflowers aren’t just beautiful—they support bees, butterflies, birds and many other species. They’re part of what makes our countryside special. By showing how rich and full of life this area is, we can help make the case against turning it into an industrial-scale solar site.
So this May, let’s celebrate our wildflowers and stand up for the countryside.
By exploring and recording the nature around us, we can show just how special this area is—and why it’s worth protecting. You can also get involved by spreading the word,
How You Can Help
There are lots of ways you can get involved in protecting our local countryside from the Kingsway Solar development:
- Put up posters in your area to help raise awareness
- Distribute leaflets to let neighbours know about the impact of the project
- Help with fundraising to support events, materials and campaign activities
Whether you have just a few hours or can offer more regular help, every bit of support counts. Together, we can stand up for our local landscape and make sure our voices are heard.
