KSCA Campaign News: January 2026

As we welcome the new year, many of you are asking: “Is there anything else we can do?”

You’ve written letters, attended meetings, responded to each consultation, and shared your concerns widely. Thank you—your collective effort continues to make a real impact.

While the formal process is in a quieter phase, a great deal is happening behind the scenes. KSCA is now working closely with others through a newly formed legal steering committee to review options for legal representation and ensure the community’s concerns are strongly and expertly presented as we move into the next stages of the NSIP process.

We’re also developing our public relations plan and setting out the next steps of the campaign—so please keep an eye out for further updates.

Where we are in the NSIP process

We are still in the pre-application stage, and we hope Kingsway Solar are actively considering the letters, feedback, and concerns the community has raised. The next key milestone is expected around March 2026, when Kingsway may submit its planning application. After that, residents will be able to register as Interested Parties, take part in the Examination and submit evidence. The final stages carry no active community role, though judicial review may be considered.

Kingsway Solar campaign update

Important Update

We are sharing an update on the proposed Kingsway Solar project following recent developments in national energy planning and grid capacity.

There is currently a very high volume of applications for solar and battery infrastructure across the UK, exceeding the available capacity on the electricity network. In December 2025, the National Energy System Operator (NESO), which is responsible for managing the electricity system, completed its assessment of projects seeking grid connections for 2030 (download slides here).

Following this review, Kingsway Solar Ltd has not been awarded a guaranteed connection to the national grid. It is also understood that the prospects for battery storage forming part of the proposal have diminished.

Kingsway Solar Ltd has stated that it still intends to submit a Development Consent Order application in spring 2026, potentially on the basis that grid capacity could become available if other projects ahead in the process do not proceed. If submitted, the Examination phase would be expected to take place from summer 2026.

As the proposal continues through the planning process, it will be important for interested parties to remain informed and engaged, and for the potential local and environmental impacts to be carefully considered.

KSCA Communications support needed

KSCA is looking to strengthen its communications as the campaign moves into its next stages. We are seeking someone local to help keep the community informed, connected, and engaged.

The role would suit someone who is:

  • Enthusiastic and community-minded
  • Comfortable coordinating a small communications sub-group
  • Willing to sit on the KSCA main committee
  • Happy to support local outreach, including social media, press, leaflets, and regular updates

You won’t be doing this alone. We already have a friendly team of volunteers, along with templates and materials ready to use. If you enjoy generating ideas, getting involved, and helping keep neighbours up to date, we’d love to hear from you.

If you’d like to explore the role further, or are simply interested in supporting the communications work, please get in touch by email or speak to a member of the committee.

Step into Nature campaign continues

We encourage everyone to keep recording what you see and hear on your walks—birds, mammals, insects, plants. Large flocks of golden plover and lapwing are currently present near the Fleam Dyke, and song thrushes have already been heard singing. These observations are especially valuable in highlighting gaps or deficiencies in the surveys carried out by Kingsway, particularly in areas where partial or no surveys have been undertaken, such as along the proposed grid connection corridor. Every record helps—so please keep observing and keep noting what you find on iRecord.
