KSCA Campaign News: May 2026

Kingsway Solar – An Update

You may be wondering what’s happening with Kingsway — it’s all gone very quiet.

Kingsway, the developer, had planned to submit its planning application at the end of March, then indicated mid-April. Both deadlines have now passed. Following direct contact with Kingsway, they have said submission is now expected in the first half of 2026 — possibly as late as June, although no actual date has been confirmed.

We know this uncertainty is frustrating. As soon as there is a clear update — especially when it’s time for the community to take action — we will let you know immediately.

In the meantime, the most important step is to register with the Planning Inspectorate (PINS). If you sign up, you will be notified as soon as the application is submitted and the next stage begins:

You can also join KSCA as a member to receive updates directly and stay closely involved:

Kingsway Solar – What We Know Now

With Kingsway’s plans nearing submission, we have a clearer picture of the scale of this industrial development around our villages:

  • Over one million solar panels, mounted in frames more than 4 metres high — as tall as double-decker buses
  • Up to 300 container-sized battery storage units
  • Over 3,000 acres of farmland — larger than Heathrow Airport
  • Roughly 7 miles across, from the A11 near Worsted Lodge to Brinkley
  • 15 km of pylons up to 65 metres high, connecting to Burwell (not yet submitted for planning)

Up to 3 years of heavy construction traffic on local village roads

This would fundamentally change the land use, heritage and character of our villages and countryside.

Your Chance to Be Heard

Once the application is submitted, the Planning Inspectorate has up to 28 days to decide whether it is accepted for examination.

If accepted, the process moves into the Pre-Examination phase. This is when residents, parish councils and community groups can register as an Interested Party and submit a short comment (a Relevant Representation). There will only be 30 days to do this.

KSCA will provide clear guidance, workshops and templates to make the process as straightforward as possible. Our goal is for over 1,000 people to take part, so the strength of feeling across the community is clearly understood.

KSCA Becomes a Registered Community Organisation

KSCA is now formally registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Community Interest Company (CIC).

In simple terms, this means the group can operate properly — for example working with legal advisers and experts — while protecting the volunteers who run it.

Being a CIC is especially important because it means KSCA must act in the interests of the whole community, and any funds raised can only be used to support the campaign. Insurance is also being put in place to protect the organisation and its volunteers.

Supporting the Legal Campaign

KSCA, working with the Parish Council Alliance, is engaging legal advisers and independent experts in areas such as hydrology, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and landscape impact.

Their evidence will be essential in presenting strong, well-supported arguments during the Examination phase.

Can You Spare a Few Hours?

Over the coming months, we will need volunteers to help with:

  • Leafleting and raising awareness
  • Social media and design work
  • Community events and workshops

Even a small amount of time can make a real difference. If you can help, please  contact us here

Together we can make sure our community is heard.
