Meeting Point at West Wratting Village Hall, Bull Lane, West Wratting, CB21 5NP
Kingsway Solar Community Action (KSCA) has been invited by the Block East Pye Solar Steering Group in Lincolnshire to take part in the National Community Walk—a coordinated, nationwide event to raise awareness of the impact of large-scale solar developments on our rural communities.
Inspired by successful events in South Norfolk—where almost 200 people took part and the BBC reported on it—the National Community Walk is uniting groups across the UK. On the same day, in their own local areas, communities will walk together to raise awareness of the impact of large-scale solar farms and battery energy storage systems (BESS), which are classed as Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs).
We’re joining this walk to show what we could lose if the Kingsway Solar project goes ahead. This huge development would change the look and feel of our countryside, affect local wildlife, and take away valuable farmland. By taking part, we want to send a clear message about why our landscape matters and why these kinds of projects need to be opposed.
🌿 Our Walk
The main walk around West Wratting is 2.25 miles (approx. 60–75 minutes); a shorter 1-mile walk is also an option. It’s a gentle, family-friendly route (dogs on leads welcome!) and signs and volunteer guides will be there to help along the way, so don’t worry if you’re unfamiliar with the path. A map of the routes are shown below (main route in red and shorter route in blue).

You’ll be walking along paths that would be directly impacted by the proposed solar farm, where open views across the countryside could be lost due to the scale and height of the panels.

☕ After the Walk
Join us at the Village Hall for tea, cake, and a short talk about the Kingsway Solar plans—and how we can work together to oppose them. Donations will support the Kingsway Solar Community Action Group in their opposition to the project.
📍 Why It Matters
This event is a chance to show just how much of our local countryside could be affected by the proposed solar farm – over 1,500 hectares (3,706 acres) of farmland near Balsham, West Wratting, Weston Colville, Willingham Green and Carlton and associated National Grid infrastructure between the solar farm and Burwell South Substation.
🎥 In the News
National BBC coverage is expected, and footage from our local walk will be shared as part of the wider campaign.
💬 Can You Help?
We need around 20 volunteers to help on the day— some to be marshals along the walk, helping guide people and sharing key info, others to help serve refreshments at the hall. If you can’t join us then, you can still support us by handing out leaflets or helping to get the word out. However you choose to help, it makes a real difference in opposing this development. Nice !
