Many of the UK’s much-loved butterflies are in serious decline. Since 1976, around 80% of butterfly species have reduced in either abundance or range. And 2024 was particularly difficult—experts from the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology report that many butterfly species have seen worrying drops in numbers due to erratic weather, habitat loss and increasing pressure on the countryside.
This June, we’re encouraging everyone to get outside and record any butterflies you spot. Whether you’re walking your dog, taking a family stroll or exploring a footpath near the proposed Kingsway Solar site, your sightings provide vital data.

By joining this effort, you’re standing with KSCA to ensure developments like Kingsway Solar do not come at the cost of our precious wildlife habitats.
Butterflies aren’t just beautiful—they’re also a sign of a healthy environment. If they’re struggling, it often means other wildlife is too. That’s why it’s more important than ever to pay attention to how changes in our landscape—like the proposed industrial-scale Kingway Solar development—might impact the wildlife we cherish.
Let’s work together to protect our butterflies—and the countryside we all love.
Whether you have just a few hours or can offer more regular help, every bit of support counts. Together, we can stand up for our local landscape and make sure our voices are heard.
